SHC Disallowed Govt From Suspending Mobile Phone Services

Friday, October 26, 2012

Regardless of the losses that occurred due to the suspension of mobile services in Pakistan, we have heard from Interior Minister Rehman Malik, that cellular services are likely to stay suspended on Eid ul Azha and govt will bless us another mobile-free Eid.

As you already know that earlier during Eid ul Fitr, mobile services were stopped up in Karachi, Lahore, Quetta, Multan and some other areas.

The Sindh High Judge (SHC) on Friday prohibited the govt from suspending cell phone services, reported DawnNews yesterday.

The high court ordered that if it is necessary, the government can implement this security measure only with the approval of the president, after listening to a case that requested the court to bar the govt from suspending cell phone services.

Sources also informed that the ministry had received signals from security agencies about probability of occurrences of terrorism during Eid ul Azha and terrorists may use cell mobile phones to detonate intense devices and connect with each other to arrange attacks.

Previously on September 23, sources in the interior ministry had said that cell phone services may be suspended in some areas during Eid ul Azha days because of threats of terrorist attacks.
